FDA Menu Board Deadline Quickly Approaching
As we informed you in January, the FDA is requiring all convenience stores with any branded concept, i.e. Krispy Krunchy Chicken, to give consumers nutritional information on standard menu items by May 5, 2017.
· Food establishments will be required to display calorie information for standard items on menu boards, next to the name or price of the item.
· Seasonal menu items offered for sale as temporary menu items, daily specials and condiments for general use typically available on a counter or table are exempt from the labeling requirements.
· Requires covered establishments to provide, upon consumer request written nutrition information.
As Krispy Krunchy Foods prepare for the menu changes prior to May, there are some important changes that we need to put in place to make sure we are following the FDA guidelines. Please review the following statements that apply to the change.
· "Local Favorites" will no longer be featured on our menu boards or any marketing material relating to the Krispy Krunchy Brand
· Why? Since we do not control the specs on these items, we do not have access to accurate nutritional information.
· If you plan to continue serving Local Favorites in the Hot Food Case, you are required to post accurate caloric information on Food ID cards in the Hot Food Case, which we can provide. Contact your distributor to get nutritional information for those items.
Krispy Krunchy Foods will help all of our operators update the necessary graphics and will continue to do so in order to comply with federal law before May 5th, 2017. Krispy Krunchy representatives will visit our operators to assist in updating our LED menu board or upgrading your menu board to comply. Since food ID cards are now required for all items in the hot food case, we will help each store order the necessary food ID cards. Each store will receive 1 laminated sheet containing all Krispy Krunchy caloric and nutritional information that must be available to any customer upon request.
